Description of the project The ophthalmic Department in the Pediatric University Hospital receives great variety of ocular congenital anomalies. The documentation of congenital optic nerve anomalies is deficient because of the difficulty in the patient's examination and documentation. The aim of the study is to create a database concerning the clinical features of such anomalies; which will be a genuine work in Egypt. The examination of the cases will include examination under anesthesia using the indirect ophthalmoscope and photography, VEP testing to evaluate the optic nerve function in non verbal infants, estimation of visual acuity and field of vision in children above the age of six years using the Humphrey field analyzer or the Frequency Doubling Technology, OCT analysis of the RNFL thickness and Optic nerve topography when possible. All these data will be collected and analyzed to estimate prevalence and document clinical findings. A family pedigree will also be studied.
Lecture on the background of the disease and courses on the use of the different diagnostic tools and the interpretation of the results will be provided.
Requirements Final years' student who studied ophthalmology. (Further readings about the subject will be useful)
