| Languages | (English) is the official communication language in hospitals & health institutes. (Arabic) is the primary communication language with the patients. However, English is widely understood. |
| Duration of Clerkship | 4 Weeks (total) |
| Working Conditions | Saturday through Wednesday: 8:00 AM – up to 3:00 PM (depending on the department)
Dress code: Shirt and tie for men, Blue or green scrub is ok. There are dress codes specific for women, please be aware of them, they are included in the "guide book" which will be available before March 2010 on http://www.ifmsa-sa.org. white coat is a requirement. It is recommended to bring your own examination tools. |
| Disciplines | Internal Medicine and its subspecialties, Surgery and its subspecialties, Plastic surgery, Dermatology, ENT, Orthopedics, Urology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Family medicine, Ophthalmology, Emergency & critical care medicine.
We cannot guarantee your 1st choice of department. Pleas prioritize 3 different departments. |
| Periods & Towns | We accept incoming exchangees during either July or August 2010(1st till the 31th). It will be decided before December 2009.

| Application documents & deadline | ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE IN ENGLISH. You can send these documents via email to NEO. Still, please bring a hard copy upon arrival.
1. Motivation letters, one for each discipline. 2. Filled AF 3. Official proof of registration in Medical School with indication of level of studies. 4. Recommendation letter from dean, vice dean, or a senior staff member from the student's medical school. 5. Proof of Immunization as mentioned below. 6. Proof of HIV -ve. 7. Passport copy x 2 8. Photos x 4 (passport size) _____________________ Immunization proof details: Hepatitis B : chick HBsAb titer. if >10 IU/ml, then you are immune. no need to take any vaccines. if <10 IU/ml, then you are NOT immune. you MUST have a HBV vaccination proof. MMR: do the screening. if they are all (+ve), you are immune. if any one of them is (-ve), you must have an MMR vaccination proof. Meningitis: you need vaccination proof withing the last 3 years. and It would be better to have : Influinza vaccination proof. |

| Board & Lodging | Board: breakfast and lunch will be at the hospital, dinner will be included with in the social program, or will be paid (up to 6 Euros).
Lodging: Within hospital's staff housing, student dormitory or rented rooms (hosting families is still an option under consideration - it'll be very interesting for both incoming students and housing families). -Cost: Free for bilateral contracts, 300 Euro for unilateral contracts. -Transportation from and to the hospital are on IFMSA-SA. -Social programs for students: Will be covered by IFMSA-SA budget in most of the time. |
| Social Program | It is arranged during the weekends, or might even take place in the middle of the week, depends on each LEC. |
| Substitutions | The substitute is accepted at the same department and period, and the same gender for students ( simply because some arrangements differs from that for male and female) . Substitution Must be reported to the NEO at least 8 weeks before the beginning of the program, due to visa issuance procedures. |
| Cancellations | Inform NEO as soon as possible. We prefer substitutions over cancellations |

| Special remarks | Incoming students will be held accountable for any damage incurred during clerkship. Complaints of misconduct in any form will result in the cancellation of the clerkship.
As everywhere, cultural differences might be observed inside & outside the working environment, these ought to be respected. Again, there are very important issue to be considered regarding women inside and outside health institutes, such as dress codes, social codes, relationships and some other points. These are to be highly respected. These information will be provided to all incoming students BEFORE arriving to Saudi Arabia, and will be included in the "Guide book". We stress on those aspects just to make your exchange experience wonderful, colorful and unforgettable! Once again, We'll do our best to let you enjoy everything in Saudi Arabia! |
